چکیده

NGC1360 is a large planetary nebula (PN) without an obvious shell morphology. We have analyzed Hα images and high-dispersion echelle spectra of NGC1360 in order to construct spatio-kinematic models and to determine its density distribution. The best-fit model indicates that NGC 1360 is a prolate ellipsoidal shell whose major axis is twice as long as its minor axis and is tilted by 60 with respect to the line of sight. The large kinematic age of the shell, ∼10,000 yr, and the low density of the nebula, ≤130 H-atom cm, imply that NGC1360 is an evolved PN and has begun to merge with the interstellar medium. The observed morphology and surface brightness profiles of NGC1360 can be described well as a thick shell with a Gaussian radial density profile without a sharp inner edge, indicating a lack of on-going compression by a fast stellar wind. The FLIERs observed in NGC1360 near the end of its major axis expand faster and are younger than the nebular shell. Subject headings: ISM: kinematics and dynamics – ISM: planetary nebulae: general – planetary nebulae: individual (NGC1360)

A&a Manuscript No. Narrow-band Imaging and a Search for Planetary Nebulae ?

We summarize the results of narrow-band (H and O III] 5007 A) imaging of eight planetary neb-ulae taken during recent observing campaigns: We present the probably largest known PN, MWP 1, with a linear diameter of about 6 pc. We show rst narrow-band images of He 2-437, MeWe 1-5, MeWe 1-8, MeWe 1-9, NGC 1360, and of { like we term them { the \Galactic footballs" A 43 and NGC 7094. We report abou...

Physical Structure of Planetary Nebulae . Ii . Ngc 7662

We present a study of the structure and kinematics of the triple-shell planetary nebula NGC7662 based on long-slit echelle spectroscopic observations and HST archival narrow-band images. The structure of NGC 7662 main nebula consists of a central cavity surrounded by two concentric shells. The bright inner shell has a non-negligible thickness and the highest density in the nebula. The outer she...

We consider the possibility of cluster membership for 13 planetary nebulae that are located in close proximity to open clusters lying in their lines of sight. The short lifetimes and low sample size of intermediate-mass planetary nebulae with respect to nearby open clusters conspire to reduce the probability of observing a true association. Not surprisingly, line of sight coincidences almost ce...

Discovery of Lyα Pumped Molecular Hydrogen Emission in the Planetary Nebulae

We report the first observation of Lyα pumped molecular hydrogen emission lines in planetary nebulae. The H2 emission observed in the ultraviolet spectra of NGC 6853 and NGC 3132 can be explained by excitation of vibrationally hot H2 by Lyα photons. Constraints are placed on the nebular Lyα emission profile, as well as the molecular hydrogen temperature, column density and turbulent motion. The...
